Sunday, Sunday.. Sun-DAY!

It's Sunday....
A very rainy, dismal one.

I haven't posted in a few days, been a busy week. I've been drawing, brain storming for my animation short and painting at the Art Center this week. Lots of art making.

Ironically, as busy as I've been I really don't have much art to post. Yesterday I took a few steps bac and looked at the story and frame of my short rather than rushing into the character design. I definitely needed a more solid structure for the story before I moved on with characters and drawing.

That's really where I'm at. Building my story and thinking about characters. One of the things I've been trying to focus on most with my characters is silhouette. Here are a couple of quick designs that show that a bit. I wanted to play around with a solid character with no detail and a strong silhouette.

Not sure if they'll be used in my animation, haven't decided on a style yet but this was an exercise and it definitely brought me a new perspective and some fresh ideas.

I'll post my progress from this week, probably mid-week. Happy Sunday!

Coffee Shop Short

Been making slow progress with my short. Sort of working from the inside out, building characters and thinking about a plot. I haven't gotten too, too far but I like what I have so far. Two male characters Jeremy and Eli... I think they'll both be Barista's. I'd like to have many characters, other barista's and customers but it being a "short"... I'm trying to stay weary of that.

Here is Jeremy..

He's very "Intellectual", kind of condescending and cocky... the typical (stereotypical) coffee snob. I think I'm going to have a lot of reference material for him. I haven't gotten much further than his head shot (here). I have a few gesture sketches and prop ideas but yeah.
Next is Eli, he started out as a customer but I think he'd be a funny barista, maybe he knows nothing about coffee and frequently screws everything up.

I like him the most so far, he's trying to be laid back amongst a group of ego's and head cases (enter comedic relief).

So that's all for now. I'm at the Cartel ... was going to work on the bags but I'm not comfortable enough (on the stool and low table) to get anything done.
People are kind of funny here, it's entertaining.

Practice Makes Progress

It's Friday night, seven pm and I feel like I could sleep for about twelve hours tonight. SO tired. Been working my butt off, learning so much and loving it. Had a great day at work today, didn't feel like I made much head way on the project I am currently working on but I learned a new technique for blocking out color. Right now I'm working on some props for a project we're working on.

These are just some quick ideas I came up with for the concept I was working on... the bags that people put their tiny dogs in. These were drawings from real bags, people really swing their dogs around on them like they're gym bags or something... crazy. I just thought of another idea too while writing this, going to draw one where the dog is strapped to a person more like a baby carrier wrap.. haha, should be funny.

Okay so then I worked on some bags that were more the traditional type.

These were fun. This is really my first go at drawing up my own concepts and coloring them the way I'd like. It's pretty fun and very loose. Still there are countless interpretations I could do and after passing it along to another team member the drawings continue to transform.
Lastly, Andy showed me how to block out color similar to the way it's done in Illustrator to make it cleaner and more 3D-looking... spiffy.

So this is where I'm at so far. Will prob. pick up on it next week or in my free time this weekend. I also have some characters for my short in the works... two so far but more to come!

GOOD MorninG!

I've been up for a while now but finally getting to "business"...
Staying home today, feels nice. This week has been rather busy, I like busy but I also like Chillll.
Things are picking up with animating, yesterday I got my first lesson in Illustrator. I think it'll be a great tool for me when everything ties together. I'll probably practice more with that today and work on my characters for my short in the next couple of days. So far I just have heads and figure expression doodles.

I'm super stoked about everything I've been learning though. It's amazing how much I can cram into my brain in such a short period of time. Andy and Kris have been amazing teachers too, as is Jaybie! (He learned me some Ai yesterday)<--- I'm strange.

So yes I'm improving everyday, today is a rest day for the most part, I need it too! After the meeting at the PVAC (my art center) yesterday and all the info. I soaked up there and then the work too.. feeling  a little burnt toast. It's cool though I'll bounce back and feel great tomorrow I'm sure.

I posted some more light photo's this morning on my http://www.artifolio.com/portal.php
Uploaded camera photos and found all kinds of good stuff.

No images to post.. well I guess I can post another Light Photo but the cartoonage will have to wait a little bit longer. This is one of the many (more) I posted to my  http://www.artifolio.com/sueknightconnally/gallery/

Feeling Neglectful

It's Friday and I'm home... last night I went to First Thursday and to an Artsy Fartsy Party w/ Steve for his work frands...
That was ok and yesterday and today have also been alright.
I'm feeling a little neglectful about my Ps practice and sketching in general, haven't been doing much of it the past two days but I've been making art in different ways. I've painted and edited photos...posted to my new site and whatnot. I have done a little Ps work.
I decided to try out a background for the first time in a long time. I used a book for reference so if it looks familiar.. (haha) this is an unofficial reference statement.

It's my first time really trying to draw trees or any sort of nature-esque scene in Ps sooo.. bare with me. I'm sure with a little more practice I'll ease into it a bit more and improve but this is a start. I really like the style, reminds me of old cartoons that I watched. Gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling. So I did this and one other sketch yesterday and today I've painted a bunch. I figure if the arms are moving who cares which medium I working in..right?

Later today I'll go for a walk and get outside but for now.. just relaxing and posting old work on a new site.

Take care All.

I'm A Collector(!!)

It's a little past midnight, I think I'm about to call it a night. I had a great conversation with my best friend who also happens to be an amazing artist and I decided to join the site that she is a part of...

So I'm thinking I will use this for my photography, paintings and digital art instead of having a seperate blog on here. Now I have this, deviant art ... and the www.artifolio.com  site. I hope I can keep up with all of them. Anyway It's late and I'm exhausted! Goodnight.    -sKc

Bedazzle Frazzle

This... by this I mean just the "gemming" took me roughly about six hours today. Just bedazzling... wait ok maybe five hours. So much of it was trying to find gems to move and organizing but I'm catching on. It wasn't as fun as it looks but it was fun and very informative of Photoshop's many wonders!!
It's not perfect but I think if I worked out it any longer my eyes would possible burst.. I know pretty image.

So I'm still soooo happy to be doing this and I'm eager to learn more and more as the time progresses. Tomorrow I have the day off so I'll be practicing more I assure you!

Will also write more super soon-ish!
